Some home projects can take hours, days, weeks, months, and even years to complete. But today, we’re going to walk you through six quick home fixes that anyone can do in 15 minutes or less. And when we say anyone, we mean anyone. You could even assign some of these tasks to your children or teenagers.
1. Stained Bathtub. Mix equal amounts of cream of tartar and baking soda, with enough lemon juice to make a paste. Rub this mixture into the stains on your bathtub and let it sit for half an hour. Rinse with water and your stains will be gone!t2. Squeaky Door Hinges. Spray a little WD-40 on the hinges and move the door back and forth to work the lubricant through the hinge. If you don’t have WD-40, you can try rubbing petroleum jelly on the hinge as well.
3. Scuffed Linoleum. Remove scuffs from your floor by rubbing white toothpaste on them with a dry cloth. WD-40 is also effective for removing scuffs–but make sure that you de-grease the area afterward.
4. Steady a Loose Toilet. Having an unsteady toilet can cause problems, and tightening it to the ground is not a hard task. First, try tightening the closet bolts holding the toilet to the floor (see picture below) with your fingers. Finish up by giving them a quarter-turn with a wrench. But be careful not to over-tighten, as the toilet’s porcelain could crack.
5. Refresh your Disposal. No need to go buy expensive disposal sweeteners–just use baking soda! First, let water run down the sink to get out any old food. Next, put the stopper in and let the sink fill halfway full with warm water. Add 1/4 cup baking soda to the water. Now remove the stopper as you flip the disposal switch. This will get rid of bad odors and keep your disposal smelling fresh.
